VCD Spree

There was this VCD rental shop across the road from my faculty where I signed up as a member and borrowed quite a lot of VCDs while I was still schooling. (DVDs and DVD players were still quite expensive at that time and the DVD rental market was virtually non-existent)

Think I watched the most number of VCDs while I was in my final year as I had quite a bit of time to spare, but sad to say, once I started work, I have never visited the place again and I’m not even sure if it still exists now…

Leisure World Cruise

There was a promotion for a cruise while I was still schooling in University. It seemed like a good deal as it was only about $30 for a 2D1N cruise!

Esh, Bern, Em and I signed up for the cruise just for the heck of it. We had to take a ferry boat to the middle of nowhere before we disembarked on to a dock and transferred to the cruise ship.

The activities on the ship were minimal as it was targeted mainly at gamblers, but it was a cheap and good way to get away from the hustle and bustle of Singapore life and just eat and relax.

Chewy Hacked

One night, me and my team were doing our project work in the NUS Science CBLC when I got bored and decided to play a trick on one of my team members, Chewy.

When she left for the restroom, I unplugged her keyboard and plugged mine in (I was sitting in front of her with my back facing her). This meant that her keyboard was “dead” and whatever she typed couldn’t appear on screen.

Upon coming back from the loo, she tried to continue her work but soon she started complaining to us that her PC had hung. I then started typing stuff:

“Hahaha.”

“You are hacked! I am hacker!” She was shocked and then starting asking us for help.

“You are pretty girl” Then she was wondering how the “hacker” could see her. At this point, the rest of the team broke out in laughter and the game was up.

First notebook

Ever since I was in Primary School, I was always reading the PC Magazines that my mum got for me and I was greatly fascinated by the monochrome and plasma notebooks that were always featured as the latest and greatest in personal computing technology.

I was thus delirious with happiness when I got to Uni and there was a promotion by Toshiba to buy notebooks at cheap prices. The notebook I got weighed as much as a washing machine and I think it only had 32MB of RAM, but it was my first notebook nonetheless.

Now, I don’t know where it is and I suppose its somewhere either at my place or my mum’s place (where I left quite a bit of stuff). Hopefully, it is recalling and reliving its glory days as my hi-tech companion

University is fun

When I first got into Uni, there were some people who told me Uni was more fun, interesting and easier than any part of my educational life so far. I had some doubt about this viewpoint as things were only getting tougher and tougher from Primary to Secondary to JC.

However, it turns out that those people were right and Uni was truly more fun because I got to pursue the subjects I were interested in. So to those who have any apprehension about Uni, don’t worry too much.

Man U triumph over Bayern for Champ’s League 1999

This was probably one of the sweetest memories that I had for Man U football. I was staying in a holiday flat with Esh and we (or rather I) woke up in the middle of the night to catch the match live.

If you are a footie fan, you should already know that Man U had lost its talismanic captain, Roy Keane, to suspension, and Bayern had the impenetrable Oliver Khan in goal. It seemed like a lost cause, especially when Man U were down by a goal with minutes of the game left to play.

Who would have thought that Man U would turn the game around in a matter of minutes and snatch victory from the jaws of defeat through 2 goals via Sheringham and Solskjaer? That was a feeling of pure exhiliration, although Esh did feel a bit sorry for the Bayern players as they cried on the pitch.
